Article 16 of the Defence Act 
Ministry of Defence carries out the inspection activities concerning enforcement of laws in the area of importance for defence, regulations promulgated under such laws, as well as plans and policies of the state bodies and organizations and the Serbian Armed Forces related to: 
1) preparations for defence; 
2) implementation of decisions and acts of the defence system management; 
3) inspection of the work of the commands, units and facilities of the Serbian Armed Forces and bodies and institutions of the Ministry of Defence; 
4) execution and coordination of organization of communication and cryptoprotection; 
5) control of operational and functional capabilities of commands, units and institutions of the Serbian Armed Forces; 
6) other duties prescribed by law or at the request of the competent authority. 
The activities under paragraph 1 of this article are carried out by the Defence Inspectorate, in accordance with the law and regulations relating to the inspection.

Article 17 of the Defence Act 
While performing the inspection activities under Article 16 of this law, inspectors and persons authorized for inspection shall have the right to: 
1) have access to documents relating to the preparation of the defence forces for defence; 
2) check the implementation of decisions and acts of the defence system management; 
3) perform an emergency inspection of operational and functional abilities of commands, units and institutions of the Serbian Armed Forces, based on the approval of the President of the Republic or a person authorized by him; 
4) order the removal of deficiencies found in the defence plans or in the implementation of the prescribed measures and actions to execute the tasks from the Republic of Serbia Defence Plan and individual plans; 
5) order the suspension of measures and actions that are inconsistent with the law and the defence plans until the decision is made by the competent authority; 
6) order the commands, units and institutions of the Serbian Armed Forces and the state government bodies and other authorities responsible for planning to submit a report on the state of their defence preparations; 
7) order the suspension of activities that directly threaten or endanger human life and health of people or property pending the decision of the competent authority; 
8) submit proposals for the initiation of disciplinary, misdemeanour, criminal or other liability against responsible persons in accordance with the law; 
9) provide expert assistance to the defence forces whose preparations they control and inform the competent authorities on the situation observed and measures undertaken; 
10) take other measures for which they are authorized by law and by order of the competent authorities.

Subjects who have undergone the control are required to act according to the findings of the inspectors and persons authorized for the inspection activities.

Article 18 of the Defence Act 
Minister of Defence shall prescribe the elements, contents and standards for evaluation of: state, operational and functional capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces; work of, organizational units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces; protection of defence resources and financial operations of commands, units and institutions of the Serbian Armed Forces and the organizational units of the Ministry Defence under the laws and guidelines promulgated by the President of the Republic. Defence Inspectorate regularly reports to the President and the Minister of Defence on the established findings.

Article 19 of the Defence Act

Tasks of inspection are performed by the Defence Inspectorate in accordance with law and regulations issued by the Minister of Defence.
