Minister Rodic receives German Ambassador

Defence Minister Nebojsa Rodic met today with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Heinz Wilhelm.

Both sides agreed that cooperation in the field of defence was at a very high level, but that there is room for improvement. Focal areas of cooperation are in the fields of military education, military medicine and preparations for deployment in multinational operations.

They expressed their commitment to start a new chapter in military cooperation between the two countries through joint involvement of medical personnel and training teams in the German contingent in the European Union operation in Mali, involving members of the 22 EU Member States. The Mission in Mali was established earlier this year and does not have mandate for participation in combat operations.

German Ambassador was introduced to the active participation of the Republic of Serbia in regional security initiatives and priorities in cooperation with the European Union.

It was concluded that official meetings between the two countries contribute to establishing better relationships and proposed intensification of such meetings. Minister Rodic invited the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence of the German Armed Forces to visit Serbia.

They emphasized importance of the signing of the Agreement on exchange and protection of classified information, which will define the legal basis for even closer cooperation.

Minister Rodic invited members of the German Armed Forces to schooling at the military educational institutions of Serbia.

Ambassador Wilhelm pointed out that the German Embassy is ready to participate in the activities in the Republic of Serbia that are to mark the centenary of the beginning of the Great War next year.
