Awards for the best scientific papers in the defence system



Annual award for the research project and for a doctoral dissertation at the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces were presented today at the Central Military Club. The ceremony was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Nenad Neric, Acting Assistant Ministers of Defence Radmila Jagodic and Milos Jankovic, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

Commission for the selection of the proposals for papers for the allocation of annual awards has chosen the best research project "Possibility of modifications to conventional radars by introducing pulse compression" by project manager Prof. Colonel Milenko Andric from the Military Academy, and the best doctoral thesis "Characterization of micro-ring resonator-based optical filters using the finite element method" by Lieutenant Colonel Bojan Milanovic, PhD, also from the Military Academy.

Colonel Andric and Lieutenant Colonel Milanovic were conferred awards by State Secretary Neric who said that scientific research in the defence system is one of the main factors and drivers of development and strengthening of the defence system, as well as the improvement and development of the knowledge level of the society as a whole.

- The defence system recognizes the role of science in the process of development of defence capabilities, as well as the need to stimulate the most prominent individuals for the contribution they make. In the last year, significant steps were made in the affirmation of science in the defence system, and the direct result of the research work is the design of modern arms and military equipment, as well as their production, Neric said.

He said that the vision of the development of the Serbian defence system mainly rests upon the organized scientific research activities and efficient results of the development work of the scientific research personnel.

- There is no survival without development and no development without scientific research. The future is in science, the State Secretary concluded.

For the allocation of annual awards for 2015, four scientific research projects, ten doctoral dissertations and two master's theses were submitted.

The ceremony was organized with an exhibition dedicated to the presentation of the results of our scientific research institutions.
