Minister of Defence meets with the ambassador of Algeria



The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia Nebojsa Rodic met today with the Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria , Abdelkader Mesdoua .

It was estimated that the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Algeria have deepened by improving strategic cooperation in defense and there is interest to continue the cooperation in other areas. The Agreement on Defense Cooperation , which was signed in 2011, provides for the further development of bilateral military cooperation , especially military economic , military-education and military-military cooperation.

The importance of military education cooperation between the two countries was particularly stressed . The Agreement on Education of the Ministry of National Defense of Algeria for postgraduate studies in higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Defence of Serbia is being implemented at the moment , based on which 15 Algerian engineers are attending advancement studies at the Military Technical Institute . Furthermore, 13 Algerian doctors are currently attending school and participating at the Military Medical Academy.

The field of military economic cooperation is of great importance for both countries , given the fact that Algeria has chosen Serbia as a strategic partner in the reconstruction and modernization of its defense industry .

It was pointed out that it the initiative of the Ministry of National Defence of Algeria to engage economic capacities of the Republic of Serbia on the implementation of the program for construction of housing units for members of the armed forces of Algeria is very significant.

Minister Rodic said that the Republic of Serbia values Algeria’s principled support regarding the status of Kosovo and Metohija .

Rodic and Mesdoua emphasized the importance of the Joint Commission for Cooperation in the field of defense in the definition and implementation of the priority forms of cooperation.
