Memorial plaque in honor to SAF pyrotechnicians unveiled



Near Pancic Summit today a memorial in honor of plaque sergeants Nebojsa Milic and Slavisa Markovic, Serbian Army deminers who tragically died on this day a year ago during the demining of cluster bombs dropped by NATO bombing. The ceremony of unveiling the plaque, with the words "Taken from oblivion ...", was attended by SAF Chief of the General Staff Ljubisa Dikovic, Air and Air Defense Commander Major General Ranko Zivak, relatives and friends of deminers, members of the Serbian Army.

- Sergeants Markovic and Milic, experienced professionals gave what is most valuable to every man - his life, performing a task which aimed to protect the life and safety of citizens living on or come to visit Kopaonik said Major General Ranko Zivak.

He added that this was a sad occasion  to remind us that the Army is an institution where people are engaged in high-risk tasks.
- Every day various tasks in which there is a risk to the health and lives of its members, officers and soldiers are performed. Accidents do not only affect individuals. They are a devastating blow to the family, relatives and friends. Therefore, the Serbian Army is doing everything it can in these difficult times to help and protect the family members of the casualties. Dear families of victims, be certain that you are not alone in this. SAF members will not allow their dead comrades and colleagues to be forgotten them or their trace to be obliterated so they raised a memorial plaque in honor of sergeants first class Nebojsa Milic and Slavisa Markovic said General Zivak.

In addition to the delegation of the Serbian Army, wreaths at the memorial were laid by the families of the victims and a delegation of 98 and 204 Aviation Brigade, to which sergeants Markovic and Milic were assigned.
