President Vučić: We will continue equipping our armed forces

The President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić, together with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, observed today the River Flotilla units’ training and visited the weapons and military equipment display in the "Mačva Partisan Detachment" barracks in Šabac.

President Vučić congratulated members of the Army on their holiday - November 16, the Army Day, and wished them a lot of success in the future, telling Minister Stefanović, Chief of the General Staff, General Mojsilović, and Army Commander, General Simović, to convey his greetings to all soldiers and to tell them that the citizens of Serbia are proud of the great, important and responsible work they do.

He expressed hope that all members of the Army will have better equipment and better weapons, and wished them years and decades of peace.

- I would also like to congratulate you on the exercise you have conducted today in very complex conditions on the Sava River in Šabac. It is cold and windy on the Sava, and you can imagine what it was like for the divers who entered the water at this temperature, in this weather, but I think they did exceptionally well - President Vučić said.

According to him, the River Flotilla still needs equipping and modernization, including the modernization of sonars, introduction of drones, equipment digitalization and procurement of new boats, primarily low-draft.

- In addition to ships and boats for the Sava and Danube rivers, we should also procure some for the Morava, Tisza and Drina. These are the things we will have to do in the next period, but a lot of things will be provided for the Army by the end of the year and I believe that generals Simović and Mojsilović, Minister Stefanović and Assistant Minister Miloradović will be satisfied with what the government has done - said President Vučić.

In recent years, President Vučić noted, more has been invested than ever in our armed forces, in weapons, equipment and modernization, which has not been easy.

- I just want to say one thing - the more you look and the more you do, the more flaws you see and the more you want to fix them and as quickly as possible. In any case, with all the modernization and all our efforts, our greatest strength lies in our people, soldiers, officers, non-commissioned officers, those who train every day, so that, God forbid, they are able to protect and preserve our country if the need arises - President Vučić emphasized.

The Army Commander, Lieutenant General Milosav Simović, also attended the display which was conducted by the Army Command, headed by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Željko Tramošljika.

The topic of today’s training conducted by the River Flotilla was "Tactical group defending a waterway". The training segments demonstrated included inland waterway control, enemy and coastal reconnaissance, transportation by ferry and amphibious transporter, mine detection using sonar and medical evacuation. Multipurpose and patrol river boats, amphibious transporters, tugs, aluminium assault boats and other means used by members of the River Flotilla were used in today’s exercise.

On the plateau of the "Mačva Partisan Detachment" temporary training area, there was a static display of more than 60 types of state-of-the-art weapons and military equipment used by the Army and means that are being developed by the Military Technical Institute which the Army will be equipped with in the future.
