Marking 87th anniversary of the death of Archibald Reiss

Wreaths have been laid at the monument to Rudolf Archibald Reiss in Topcider park, today, to mark the 87th anniversary of the death of the prominent humanist and criminologists.

The state ceremony was led by Dragan Popovic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, and wreaths were laid also by the Deputy Ambassador of Switzerland in Belgrade, a representative of the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies and representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the government's Committee for Cherishing Traditions of Liberation Wars of Serbia, which is the organizer of the ceremony.

Wreaths were also laid by representatives of the City of Belgrade, Cukarica municipality, representatives of the Association for Preserving the Traditions of the Serbian Liberation Wars and the citizens.

Nikola Nikodijevic, Chairman of the City Assembly, pointed out on that occasion that it was very important that the state had decided to mark the date of the death of Archibald Reiss within the dates marking the days of remembrance of the First World War.

"As a resident, I can say that we are honoured to have such a citizen in our history. There are few people like him, who have expressed such love and belonging to the people to whom he did not belong by birth," Nikodijevic said, and the City administration released.

As he said, Rice managed in a very short time to describe us in his books better than anyone else, but he managed to love our Slavic soul, to stay to live in Serbia until the end of his life and to be buried here.

" His historical role is also important as he was a man who had come here in the most difficult time for the Serbian people in 1914 and spread the truth about the crimes and atrocities committed by the Austro-Hungarian, German and Bulgarian army against innocent Serbian civilian population", Nikodijevic said.
