Successful engagement of military and police at the border

In the last 15 days, more than 1,500 migrants gave up illegal crossing of the state border, which speaks enough about the success of joint engagement of the military and the police guarding the state border to Bulgaria and Macedonia.

Major General Zelimir Glisovic, Commander of the joint forces, said that safeguarding the state border is a dynamic job that has to be well planned, organized and free of any pattern.

- We are following developments on the ground, sharing information with all relevant security structures and engaging our forces accordingly, General Glisovic added.

The fight against human trafficking, according to him, will be a priority in the work of the joint forces in the forthcoming period and this struggle requires the cooperation of all state structures.

- Only over the past weekend, in cooperation with the Task Force of the Ministry of Interior on the prevention of irregular migration flows, we found six persons of Bulgarian nationality, who attempted to smuggle dozens of migrants, General Glisovic said.
General Glisovic added that one cannot predict the time and place where and when illegal migrants will try to illegally cross the state border.

- So far, there were attempts at illegal border crossings day and night, individually and in groups. When they spot us at the road communications, they try to get over the mountain passes, on their way through forests, impassable areas in the east of Serbia, General Glisovic emphasizes.

The largest number of attempts for illegal border crossing is still from Macedonia, in the wider area of Miratovac field, where more than 900 persons was registered who gave up illegal incursions into the territory of Serbia due to the presence of the military and the police.
