Celebration of World Music Day in the Central Military Club

Stanislav Binicki Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence marked the World Music Day - 21 June, with a concert "Jubilees", in the Ceremonial Hall of the Central Military Club, last night.

The concert was performed in cooperation with the Ljubica Maric Belgrade Chamber Orchestra and their artistic director, conductor Rade Pejcic. The compositions performed under his baton were Balkan suite (1927) by Josip Slavenski, Concertino for piano and chamber orchestra Op.205 by Dejan Despic and Chamber Symphony Op.110 by Dmitri Shostakovich.

By specific programme and pieces by Slavenski, Despic and Shostakovich, "Binički", as an ensemble that has cherished Serbian music and tradition for more than a century, wanted to repay the three great personalities of the world and Serbian music.

At tonight's concert, Concertino for piano and chamber orchestra, op.205 by Dejan Despic, created in 2009, was premiered with a young and talented piano soloist Ana Kovacevic, who is part of a kind of trilogy of the latest creative work of the composer.

The piece of Balkan Suite by Josip Slavenski is very rare on repertoire lists of orchestras and it is a version for string orchestra of the famous Balkanofonia created by the composer back in 1927.

The Chamber Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich is one of his representative pieces which has also rarely been performed by ensembles in Serbia because of the gravity and specific atmosphere that the piece brings.
