Marking the 201st anniversary of the Second Serbian Uprising



Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic headed the delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces which today laid a wreath at the memorial complex dedicated to the Second Serbian Uprising in Takovo near Gornji Milanovac within the state ceremony marking the 201stanniversary of the outbreak of the Second Serbian Uprising.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia wreath was laid by the Minister for Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Aleksandar Vulin, who has headed the state ceremony of paying tribute to heroes of the Takovo Uprising.

Minister Vulin reminded of the historical significance of the Second Serbian Uprising, emphasizing the tradition of freedom of the Serbian people. He also pointed to the wisdom and courage that of the national leaders at the time, noting that then, just as it is now the case, strong military and diplomacy are recognized as importantfor the development of the modern state.

Wreaths were laid also by representatives of the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac and Morava District, as well as representatives of the Association for Preserving the Tradition of the Serbian Liberation Wars.

The Serbian Armed Forces celebrates 23 April as its holiday to mark the day when, on Palm Sunday in 1815, the decision was made to raise the Second Serbian Uprising to liberate Serbia from Ottoman rule, which later enabled the creationof the modern Serbian state and the armed forces.
