The safest drivers in the previous year declared



At the Department for General Logistics of the Material Resources Sector today the first session of the Council for safety of military traffic participants in 2016 has been held, where the safest drivers in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in the previous year were declared.

In the category of non-commissioned officers, Sergeant Major Jordan Mirceta from the Special Brigade was declared as the safest driver, who has driven 34.865 kilometres last year; in the category of professional soldiers Sasa Ilic from the 2nd Depot Battalion – Kragujevac, who crossed 39,065 kilometres driving the truck-tractors, and in the category of civilians, the safest driver for the last year was Zoran Dobrosavljevic from the Military Construction Institution "Belgrade", who drove 70,969 kilometres at the steering wheel of different types of vehicles. The winning drivers were presented awards and prizes by the Head of the Department for Motor Vehicles and Road Safety at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering, University of Belgrade, Professor Krsto Lipovac.

At the meeting chaired by Colonel Cedomir Dupor from the Department of Logistics, apart from the analysis of the security situation of military traffic participants and activities undertaken in this area in 2015, the representatives of the Road Traffic Safety Agency presented also the analysis of traffic safety in the Republic of Serbia for the same period.

During 2015, there were 98 traffic accidents and, in the accidents where the responsibility of drivers of military vehicles was estimated, six people suffered minor injuries, which can be assessed as very favourable situation compared to the period from 2011 to 2015. There were around 70 percent of the total number of traffic accidents in the settlements, and about 37 percent of the total number of traffic accidents happened in Belgrade.

During today's meeting, the discussion was held about the experiences of the 14th Congress of the European Commission for the Road Safety in the Armed Forces (ECRAF), the Annual Plan for the implementation of preventive actions to enhance the safety of military traffic participants in 2016, and the discussion regarding the Proposal for the strategic review of safety of military traffic participants for the period 2016-2020, as the key act in this area, was organized.

The session was attended by members of the Council - representatives of the units and institutions of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as representatives of civil institutions: the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Traffic Police Department, Road Traffic Safety Agency, University of Belgrade Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering and Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad.
