Briefing for foreign military representatives on the operation of the Directorate for European Integration and Project Management



Presentation of the Directorate for European Integration and Project Management, during which the foreign military representatives accredited in the Republic of Serbia were briefed about the organizational structure, responsibilities and planned activities of the Directorate, was held in the Annex Hall of the House of Guard today.

On behalf of the Defence Policy Sector, the guests were greeted by Chief of the Department for Organization, Major General Sladjan Djordjevic, who pointed out that the process of accession to the European Union has been one of the highest priorities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the entire state policy for more than 15 years, and that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces as part of the executive power and one of the best organised state administration sectors makes a significant contribution to the results of our state and society in the process of European integration.

Director of the Directorate, Colonel Katarina Strbac, PhD, informed the guests about the results so far and the priorities of the Directorate for the next period, and invited all the stakeholders to work on promotion of the cooperation, especially in the field of management of the projects funded outside the defence budget.

Within the presentation of the Group for European Integration it was pointed to the fact that the Ministry of Defence participates in the work of 20 out of 35 negotiating groups in the negotiations on the accession of Serbia to the European Union. According to the importance for the defence system, the results of the work of the negotiating groups for Chapters No. 23 (Judiciary and Fundamental Rights), 24 (Justice, Freedom and Security), 31 (Common Foreign, Security and Defence Policy) and 32 (Financial Management and Control) were analysed in particular.

The Project Management Group presented its scope and criteria for the selection of projects which are intended to be financed by extra-budgetary funds. Special attention was paid to priority areas of the project activities that were defined for the period 2016 - 2019.
