Djordjevic and Apostolakis on cooperation in the field of defence

State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic met today with the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis on defence cooperation between the two countries and issues of importance to regional security.

Djordjevic and Apostolakis agreed that bilateral relations between Serbia and Greece are characterized by traditional friendship and good political cooperation. The defence cooperation follows the level of overall bilateral relations and both sides are striving for its constant improvement.

State Secretary Djordjevic pointed out that the common goal of the two countries should be finding opportunities to improve cooperation in the areas of common interest on a realistic and rational basis, especially having in mind the new security challenges including the uncontrolled migration of the population from the areas affected by the crisis.

Speaking about the migrant crisis, the State Secretary Djordjevic stressed that Serbia, acting as a responsible member of the international community, assumes its share of the burden and shares the responsibility, although it is not a member of the European Union. Given that Greece is one of the countries highly affected by the migrant crisis, Djordjevic said that Serbia is interested in the experience of the Hellenic Republic to mitigate the effects of the crisis induced by the migration.
