Technical meeting of military psychologists



Стручни скуп војних психолога The second technical meeting of MoD and SAF psychologists held today in organization by the Department for Development of Psychological Activities of the Human Resources Sector at the Ministry of Defence was dedicated to the work action plan for military psychologists in the future period, and the improvement of this field of great importance for the defence system.

After the opening word of the Assistant Minister for Human Resources Milos Jankovic, the meeting, which was also attended by Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic and Head of the Human Resources Sector Major General Sladjan Djordjevic, Head of the Sector Nada Markovic named several activities that will be of great importance for military psychologists in the next period. Stressing that psychological activity has a very important role in the development of the overall defence system, and all its segments within the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, Markovic said that the state that the psychological activity was in several years ago differs greatly from the one they strive to achieve.

- In order to give the psychological service the place in the defence system it deserves and achieve the ambitious goals in the next period, we expect to get greater support from both the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia. In addition, the limitations and issues we face are systematic, objective and also subjective in nature. What matters is that there is good will in the system for at least some of the issues to be resolved quicker and more efficiently in the future. This primarily takes fulfilling the normative requirements, and then technical and professional – Nada Markovic stated.

Стручни скуп војних психолога In the next period, in the interest of improving the quality of psychological activity in the Armed Forces and increasing its functional role, it is necessary to devote more attention to technical advancement of military psychologists, modernization and upgrade of instruments used by psychologists in their work. It also vital to increase the advisory role of psychologists in the command and management function, to give the proper importance to the psychological activity, not only in the research part, but also in the field of military education and healthcare. A military psychologist should be affirmed as an expert in all those fields, whose knowledge and results strongly contribute to development of military profession and the defence system as a whole – the participants of the technical meeting stressed, during which a roundtable about psychological databases was also organized.

The participants of the meeting were particularly interested in the Workshop on Crisis Interventions, headed by Vladan Beara, an experienced expert from the Center for War Trauma in Novi Sad.
