Communication from the session of the Collegium of the Minister of Defence
At today’s session of the Collegium of the Minister of Defence, Minister Bratislav Gasic stressed the importance of adoption of amendments to the Law on Defence and Law on the Armed Forces of Serbia which removes perceived issues and resolves legal issues in securing functionality of the defence system. With amendments to the law, adopted by members of the National Assembly, conditions have been created for continuation of team work on further organizational and functional strengthening of the Ministry and the Armed Forces of Serbia.
Minister Gasic particularly stressed the importance of the consistent stance of the Military Security Agency concerning requests of the Ombudsman, remaining adherent to lawfulness in work and not yielding to pressures it was exposed to. Such standpoint of MSA is a trait of professionalism and fulfilling its role and place in the security system of the Republic of Serbia.
At the session, it was stated that conditions have also been created for more efficient protection of property interest of the state when it comes to more rational usage and management of property used by the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia. This will certainly benefit from the planned formation of Military Attorney’s Office within the Ministry of Defence for business previously conducted by the Direction for proprietary legal business, by the resolution of the public attorney’s office.
Members of the Collegium also stated as important the amendments to the law that enable more precise arrangement of authorities of the General Staff in commanding and managing SAF which will make the Armed Forces more efficient in conducting assigned missions and tasks.
