The Board: MSA did not break any laws

The Military Security Agency did not break any laws, and Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic has not provided any viable evidence that there had been any wiretapping of union leaders, certain party leaders and carriers of prosecuting and judiciary functions – these are the most important conclusions of the Board for Control of Security Services.

As President of the Board Momir Stojanovic told the press after nearly six hours of session of the body, it has also been concluded, concerning Jankovic’s request that the Ministry of Defence and MSA provide findings about the incident that occurred at the Pride Parade and the beating of Andrej Vucic, brother of the Prime Minister, that there had been no malicious intention, but different interpretation of the law.

“The Board concluded that it was no malicious intent of the Ministry of Defence or the Ombudsman, but a case of different interpretation of legislative regulation and referral to legal provisions of the Penal Procedure Code”, Stojanovic said, adding that the Board had invited the Ombudsman to first notify the authorities if he finds any irregularities in the future, and then bring the subject out to the public.

“Every public exposure causes unnecessary disturbance of the public and causes damage to the reputation of institution”, he stressed.

Stojanovic added that the Board had concluded that MSA had not illicitly taken statements of eyewitnesses and camera footage, but that it had been conducted legally.

He restated that Jankovic will still be able to conduct his duties and that he will be enabled to conduct control of work of MSA.

Gasic stated that neither the Ministry of Defence nor the Military Security Agency will withhold the Ombudsman’s right to control their work, but he restated that the documentation requested by Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic cannot be submitted without the adherence of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Gasic stated that MSA does not wiretap anyone, and thanked the Ombudsman for confirming it himself and thus removing “the stain off of the officers’ names”, and invited Jankovic to conduct the control of military security agencies.

“Our doors are always open for you”, Gasic told Jankovic at the session of the Board for Control of Security Services, where the incident at the Pride Parade when Andrej Vucic, brother of the Prime Minister was beaten was discussed.
