Visit from the Head of the General Staff of Montenegro
Head of the General Staff of Serbia General Ljubisa Dikovic spoke today in Belgrade with Head of the General Staff of Montenegro Admiral Dragan Samardzic.
Discussing the importance of today’s visit, General Dikovic pointed out the good cooperation between the two countries, stating that there are options for its improvement in the goal of strengthening capabilities, mutual trust and understanding, and establishing peace and security. He stressed that this cooperation will further on be focused on training, education and military economic part.
Head of the General Staff of Serbia said that there are no subjects and areas where the two militaries cannot cooperate, since they have traditionally good relations and have been bonded throughout history.
General Dikovic thanked the Admiral for the assistance from the Armed Forces of Montenegro to Serbia during the May floods, reminding that they had sent seven teams - five medical, one diver and one rescue team.
Admiral Samardzic emphasized that regional security initiatives are the key form of cooperation that is now very important, not only for Montenegro and Serbia, but for the entire region, as well. He stressed that, due to limited resources that all countries are facing, one country often cannot respond to all security challenges, but that the region can.
Head of the General Staff of Montenegro reminded that the region had been hit by various natural disasters in the previous years and that this is exactly why the initiative has been taken to establish conditions and technical procedures that would alleviate easy response and mutual help in case they reoccur. He expressed the great interest of his country in using capacities of the Armed Forces of Serbia, especially in the field of education, logistics training, and reparation services of the Aeronautical Institute “Moma Stanojlovic” and technical institutions for ammunition reparation.
Head of the General Staff of Montenegro will hold a lecture today for attendants of the General Staff Course and members of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, and, in the course of their two-day visit to Serbia, the delegation of the Armed Forces of Montenegro will lay wreaths at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Avala and visit the Center for training of CBRN staff in Krusevac.
