Minister of Defence receives Angolan Ambassador
Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic have met today with Toko Diakenga Serao, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola in Belgrade.The interlocutors agreed that relations between Serbia and Angola in the sphere of inter-state cooperation are traditionally good and it is in the interest of both countries that cooperation in defence continues and strengthens. The Republic of Angola is one of strategic partners of Serbia in Africa. Serbia particularly appreciates principled support of Angola when it comes to issue of Kosovo and Metohija.
Defence Minister conveyed his gratitude to the Angolan Ambassador for his personal contribution to the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Prominent areas of military cooperation are military-economic, military-medical, and military-educational cooperation.
This year, 35 more cadets from Angola will begin their undergraduate studies at the Belgrade Military Academy At this point, 32 officers and cadets of that African country are attending classes at the Military Academy.
"We are exceptionally delighted with the fact that the Serbian Military Academy has been recognised in Angola as a partner in the education of members of Angolan Armed Forces. Although the good relations between our two countries date back to the past periods, it is important that we have managed to preserve trust and continued to nurture strong bilateral ties between Serbia and Angola", Minister Gasic said.
He also congratulated on the appointment of a new Minister of Defence of Angola, João Manuel Gonsalves Lorenzo. Emphasizing the importance of the continuity of high-level visits, Minister Gasic invited the Angolan Defence Minister to visit Serbia.In keeping with the dynamics of the cooperation development, the procedure of opening representative offices in the defence sector in Luanda and Belgrade is underway, which will certainly serve as an additional impulse to the development of bilateral military cooperation.
The Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Defence support the presence of Serbian companies in the construction of infrastructure projects in Angola.
