Awards for best research projects



Annual awards for best research project, a doctorate and master's thesis at the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army in 2011 year, and a special prize of the "Vojno delo" journal were awarded at a ceremony today in the Central Military Club.

Acknowledgments were awarded on behalf of the Minister of Defense by Secretary of State presented Dr. Tanja Miscevic. The ceremony was attended by State Secretary Zoran Jevtic and Igor Jovicic and representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia including renowned scholars.

In the competition of four scientific research projects, six doctoral dissertations and four master's theses, special committee of the Strategic Planning Department has selected the best. The "Chemical protection team" team of Dr. Dusan Rajic, a retired colonel, was declared to have presented the most scientific research last year, while the best doctoral dissertation entitled "Improving the accuracy of measurements of aerodynamic stability derivatives using forced oscillations in the high-speed aero under great pressure", a paper done by Dr. Marija Samardzic.

Among the master thesis, the assessment committee, particularly singled out "The study of the possibility of increasing the security of transportation of hazardous materials for purposes of defense," a master thesis of Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Kostadinovic.

The article, "Gender equality in the Army of Serbia - dictates between past and future challenges", by Dr. Jovanka Saranovic from the Institute for Strategic Research has received a special annual award “Vojno delo”

The winning authors and their works were presented by the President of the Awards Committee, Head of the Strategic Planning Major General prof. Dr. Bozidar Forca.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Dr Tanja Miscevic, after presenting the awards, said that these awards prove that the defense system recognizes the role of science in its reform and development, but also the need for the most prominent individuals to be stimulated to give their contribution in science.

- I want to underscore the need and the efforts we make for the growing of young scientific personnel, as a way of confirming prospects of science in all our processes and projects. Bearing in mind that the scientific research activities of special importance for the overall development of the Serbian Ministry of Defence gives attention to scientific developments - Tanja Miscevic said, adding that even in times of economic crisis, the defense system recognizes science as a link that is inextricably linked with the strengthening of our country’s defense capabilities.

Secretary of State emphasized that the establishment of the University of Defence last year had significantly speeded scientific research in the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia, recalling that last year at the Military Academy, 64 persons had earned the title of specialists, that three of them had earned a master's degree, and 11 persons defended their doctoral dissertation.

Speaking of the Annual Award " Vojno delo," Secretary of State, said that the magazine has become known in the region as well and among academic public, with an increasing number of readers every day.

Tanja Miscevic at the end, congratulating the upcoming Armed Forces Day to all, expressing her desire that these awards are just an incentive to all those who are just moving into the path of a large research - to have the strength to start all that really lead the way.
