Marking the day of INI



In the amphitheatre of the MMA today 51 years since the founding and 50 years of the start of work of the Institute for Scientific Information of the MMA. The ceremony was attended by the Chancellor of the University of Defence Lt. Gen. prof. Dr Miodrag Jevtic, Brigadier General prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic, Head of the MMA, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine MMA Academy Brigadier General Miodrag Colic, Head of the Military Health Department Colonel prof. Zoran Popoviv, employees at the Military Medical Academy and the Institute, and many guests.

Congratulating the holiday to employees, and all former members of that collective, general Novakovic pointed out a significant contribution to the Institute in the promotion of all activities of the MMA, and therefore its position today as a leading health, educational and scientific institutions in this region, and beyond.

- Although the it the MMA Institute was formally included into the MMA in 1992, it worked as part of the MMA since the beginning, and so, not only functionally but also physically belonged to the Academy. As a result, the wealth of scientific medical information, which in all these years, the Institute has merged and dealt with through the work of its professional services, has always been available to the MMA employees- General Novakovic said.

He said the specialized library of the Institute is a leader in our country in terms of the number of monographs and journal publications in the field of biomedicine and its fund each year is completed. He stressed that it was "the Military Medical Review" as the first medical journal in Serbia included into the SCI list and that today it is a journal with an international rating.

As one of the key activities of the Institute of General Novakovic singled out teaching activities and recalled that it was the staff of the Institute for years been its carriers.

- The establishment of the Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy, the Institute has become a teaching center for the practical work in the field of medical informatics, and scientific evidence-based medicine - said the head of the MMA.

General Novakovic presented the awards to former heads of the Institute, namely, Colonels Cedomir Markovic, and Dr. Dusan Milic and prof. Dr. Vladimir Tadic as a sign of gratitude for their commitment to promotion of the institution.

The current head of the Institute prof. Dr. Silva Dobric congratulated the personnel for reaching yet another milestone, 20 years since the Institute was formally part of the MMA. She emphasized the human factor as decisive in the development of these institutions, particularly singling out prof. Dr. Ines Veslej-Tanaskovic, as one of the first ladies who laid the foundations of today's scientific computing.

Head of the Institute presented an acknowledgment plaque to eminent institutions and individuals who assisted the operation and development of the institution and thus contributed to its current expertise and equipment.

Today’s Center for Medical Informatics Scientific was founded in 1961 and since then it has function belonged to the MMA physically and, although it formally was attached to the MMA in 1992.

Initially called the Institute for the military medical records it grew to be an independent institution directly subordinated to the Chief Medical Administration, since 1979 it was called the Institute for Military Medical Scientific Information and Documentation (IVMNID), and finally since 1997 it has been named- the Institute for Scientific Information (INI).
