State Secretary Starović opens exhibition of paintings by Branislav Vuleković

The Novi Sad City Museum’s exhibition titled “Karlovac Dream Day – Paintings by Branislav Vuleković” was officially opened tonight by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Nemanja Starović at the Central Military Club’s small gallery “Belgrade”.
On that occasion, State Secretary Starović said that it was his honour to open the exhibition, which was the embodiment of inspiration of artist Branislav Vuleković, a teacher at the Karlovac High School and the Teacher Training School, a lover of Karlovci, a town of great historical importance and a picturesque landscape.

- Thanks to the artist’s son, Prof. Petar Vuleković, who donated a collection of eleven of his father's works to the Novi Sad City Museum – Sremski Karlovci Homeland Collection, we have the opportunity to witness the beauty of the works of this master of landscape painting and to rediscover his works. His son donated them to an establishment whose mission is to present the multi-layered and multinational cultural heritage of Novi Sad and the areas gravitating towards it. With this exhibition titled "Karlovic Dream Day - Paintings by Branislav Vuleković", the Novi Sad City Museum conveys the uniqueness of that spirit - said State Secretary Starović.
Thanks to events like this, this extremely valuable heritage is re-infused into our collective memory and strengthens the foundations of our identity, State Secretary Starović told the numerous admirers of Vuleković’s works.

- I would like to express my gratitude to Prof. Petar Vuleković for his gift to the Novi Sad City Museum and to all of us, and invite you to enjoy the works of his father - said State Secretary Starović, declaring the exhibition open.
The artist's son, Prof. Petar Vuleković, also addressed the audience. Speaking about the importance of the exhibition, he noted that painter and art historian Danilo Vuksanović, curator at Matica Srpska Gallery in Novi Sad, was responsible for the artistic design of the exhibition.

- Artists have the privilege of continuing to live in their works even after their death. So does Branislav Vuleković, whose works have returned, 27 years after his death, to Belgrade, where he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in the 1950s, in the class of the distinguished painter Marko Čelebonović - said the artist's son.
According to the coordinator of the exhibition, Gordana Petković, advisor to the Novi Sad City Museum, this exhibition was first staged in 2019 as part of the Sremski Karlovci Homeland Collection, which belongs to the Novi Sad Museum.

It is an honour, she said, to display the exhibition in the Central Military Club’s gallery, which was awarded the Sretenje Order on the Serbian Statehood Day in honour of its 70th anniversary.
Branislav Vuleković was drawn to nature from the very beginning. He is a painter of space, landscapes and inhabited places, who created a rich oeuvre of oil paintings and watercolours, whose impressive presence, even today, indicates a great artistic accomplishment. He was actively involved in many art colonies.

He received several awards, commendations and recognitions. He was granted the "Iskra kulture" award by the Cultural and Educational Community of Vojvodina in 1990 and “Zlatna značka” award by the Cultural and Educational Community of Serbia in the same year. He died on June 12, 1997 in Sremska Kamenica.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until March 20.
