Bilateral defence consultation with Romania



Head of the International Military Cooperation Department, Colonel Nebojša Svjetlica, met with the Head of the Directorate for International Defence Cooperation of the Romanian Ministry of National Defence, Colonel Vasile Ionescu, as part of bilateral defence consultation between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of National Defence of Romania held in Bucharest.
  During the talks, it was emphasized that the defence cooperation with Romania was very active, characterized by constant development in areas of mutual importance. It was confirmed that the two countries’ defence systems were determined to further develop and strengthen mutual defence relations, primarily in the fields of ​​joint training and military-educational cooperation.
 
The meeting also discussed the current political and security situation in the Western Balkan and the Black Sea regions. Colonel Svjetlica positively assessed the long-standing presence and additional involvement of the Romanian Armed Forces in KFOR, which contributes to easing tensions, preserving freedom of movement and security in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
 
Colonel Ionescu agreed that the defence cooperation between the two countries was highly developed and expressed his expectation that the number of activities would increase in the coming period, to the satisfaction of both parties.   
The international military cooperation departments of the Republic of Serbia and Romania confirmed good mutual defence cooperation by signing the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2024.
 
Following the talks, the Serbian MOD delegation visited the National Defence University in Bucharest.
