15th Meeting of Serbian-Egyptian Military Committee held in Cairo

The 15th annual meeting of the Serbian-Egyptian Military Committee on Defence Cooperation was held in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The Serbian MoD delegation was headed by Assistant Minister of Defence for Material Resources and co-president of the Serbian part of the Military Committee, Nenad Miloradović, PhD, while the Egyptian delegation was headed by the Director of the Strategic Planning Department at the Armed Forces Ops Authority, Major General Bashir Ahmed Abdelfattah.

At the beginning of the meeting, the two sides assessed the cooperation so far as very successful and expressed their intention to continue and intensify the military-economic, military to military and military-educational cooperation.

At the meeting, the committee analysed joint activities carried out in 2022 and 2023, and agreed on and signed the 2024 Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan. In the period to come, special attention will be devoted to advanced forms of training and exchange of experiences on the use of similar types of weapons and military equipment used by the two countries’ armed forces.

The meeting of the Serbian-Egyptian Military Committee was also an opportunity to review the progress in cooperation through the recently established Committee on Military Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Arab Republic of Egypt. The next meeting of the Military Committee will be held in Serbia next year.

The annual meeting was held concurrently with Egypt’s International Defence Exhibition (EDEX) in Cairo, so in addition to the analysis of the military-economic cooperation between the Serbian and Egyptian ministries of defence, this was also an opportunity for the Serbian delegation to visit the defence exhibition during which bilateral meetings were held with representatives of the Ministry of Military Production, the National Armaments Authority, as well as with the commander of Air Force and Air Defence of the Egyptian Armed Forces. On that occasion, the two sides considered the expansion of military-economic cooperation, as well as the possibility of establishing industrial cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Several bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines of EDEX, including the meeting with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus Andreas Louca, Algeria’s Director of Military Manufacturing, Brigadier General Bedavi Ghani, a representative of the Ministry of Defence of the Italian Republic, Lieutenant General Giuseppe Lupoli, as well as with heads of several delegations from African countries.

Several meetings were also held with the representatives of exhibiting companies at the defence exhibition with which cooperation is ongoing or is planned in the future when it comes to development projects or the modernization of weapons and military equipment of the Serbian Armed Forces.
