OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation Holds Session in Vienna

Assistant Minister of Defence for Human Resources Katarina Tomašević participated as a panellist in the Session of the Forum for Security Cooperation, which was held today in Vienna. The central topic of the session was dedicated to the implementation of the Agenda - Women, Peace and Security and the special guest of the Forum was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Hadja Lahbib.

The Assistant Minister of Defence for Human Resources presented the key experiences and results of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces in the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 Women, peace and security. The importance was stressed of building a rounded normative framework which should enable transparent and equal conditions for women and men when applying for military service and further career management. It was also emphasised that there should exist specialised organisational units and mechanisms such as gender issue advisers and “trustworthy persons”.

Presented statistical data show that the implementation of the Agenda Women, Peace and Security in the MoD and SAF has made significant progress, and that the percentage of the participation of women in military schools and peacekeeping operations places the Republic of Serbia at the very top among OSCE member states. The Chair of the Forum for Security Cooperation, Belgian Ambassador Didier Deuxchaisnes, commended Serbia for the results achieved in this area.

Our delegation included Major General Bojan Zrnić, Military Representative of the Permanent Mission of Serbia to the OSCE and other international organisations in Vienna.
