Participation in South-East Europe Defence Ministerial Process meeting

Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić participated today in the South-East Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) Process meeting in Skopje, the Republic of North Macedonia.

Bandić pointed out that Serbia, being a reliable partner and a stability factor, is committed to the process of enhancing regional cooperation through participation in existing forums, in order to produce appropriate joint responses to security threats in the South-East Europe region. He emphasized the readiness of the Ministry of Defence to provide additional contribution to the initiative through a more active involvement in the ongoing projects.
The meeting adopted the Joint Declaration of Defence Ministers, which provides guidelines for the initiative in the forthcoming period and confirms support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states, in accordance with the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Assistant Minister Bandić met with the ministers of defence of the Republic of Slovenia, the Republic of North Macedonia and Montenegro, as well as the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Albania. The interlocutors agreed that there is a potential for improvement, i.e. the establishment of bilateral cooperation in the coming period.
The South-East Europe Defence Ministerial Process brings together 15 countries in the region and the United States and is the largest regional initiative in the field of defence. It aims to connect and achieve cooperation between the defence sectors of member states and support the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
