About the Project

To mark November 16 – the Army Day and the anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Kolubara, one of the biggest victories in the Serbian military history, as well as the 75th anniversary of the Military Film Centre “Zastava Film”, we present a series of 60 short documentaries and educational films – miniatures dedicated to the First World War. The first five miniatures will be available on our websites as of today, and starting from November 21, we will publish a new episode a day.

The Miniatures by director Slađana Zarić have been produced by “Zastava Film” in cooperation with our eminent historians, Mileta Bjelajac, director of the Institute for Recent History of Serbia, Aleksandar Životić, full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, Božica Mladenović, full professor at the History Department, Faculty of Philosophy in Niš (recently deceased) and Colonel Dalibor Denda, research fellow and historian at the Institute for Strategic Research, Defence University. Director of Photography working on the film series was Žarko Pekez.

The Miniature Project aims to foster the culture of remembrance by keeping alive the memory of the people and events in contemporary national and military history. It recounts in a scientifically based and interesting way the dramatic political circumstances that preceded the biggest conflict in the history of civilization and the suffering of the freedom-loving Serbian people and their army from 1914 to 1918.

The documentaries that we present to the public are proof of the heroism and glory of our army and a testament to its crucial role in the struggle for the survival and development of the modern Serbian state.
