Ceremony in Orašac on the occasion of the Statehood Day





The central state ceremony marking the Statehood Day of Serbia –Candlemasswas held today with the highest state and military honors in the memorial complex in Orašac. The ceremony was led by National Assembly Speaker, Maja Gojković and RepublikaSrpska National Assembly Speaker NedeljkoČubrilović, who laid wreaths at the Karađorđe monument.

The laying of wreaths was preceded by the sermon toKarađorđeand the rebels, served by Bishop of Šumadija, Jovan with the clergy.

The delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces was led by the Chief of Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Major General ŽelimirGlišović.

Congratulating the citizens of Serbia on the Statehood Day, National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojković emphasized that the road to freedom and restoration of the Serbian state had begun in Orašac.

“We are still facing challenges today, challenges which we must deal with wisely, as we did 216 years ago. In order to preserve freedom and independence, based on principled politics and military neutrality, we must continue to develop our country,” Maja Gojković said.

She stressed that today, thanks to President AleksandarVučić, Serbia is a politically and economically stable country, respected in the world, which renews old and builds new friendships both in the East and in the West.

“We know that history is binding for us, and we also know that we are making history today. We will do everything to achieve our future victories in peace and not allow those who do not mean well to neither our nor their own people to divert us from the path of development and progress,” said Maja Gojković at the ceremony in Orašac.

NedeljkoČubrilovićextended congratulations on the Statehood Day and emphasized that Serbia and RepublikaSrpska cooperate openly and honestly in all fields not inflicting any harm to any other people or state, stating that such cooperation has never been better and more fruitful.

“RepublikaSrpska has no one in the world who gives it as much help, and Serbia has no one who is as loyal to her and as devoted as RepublikaSrpska,”Čubrilović said.

Within the framework of the celebration of the Statehood Day, a delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by the Deputy Commander of the Training Command, Brigadier General JelesijeRadivojevićlaid a wreath at Saint George’s Church in Oplenac.

Serbia celebrates the Statehood Day in memory of 15February 1804, when the First Serbian Uprising began, and also when the first Serbian Constitution was proclaimed in 1835.
