On the occasion of marking the centenary of the liberation of Belgrade in the World War I and the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade in World War II, badges and certificates of appreciation of the fatherland were presented to the short-term volunteers at the Military Club of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces at “Dedinje” barracks. There is a long history of volunteers in Serbia, so today we have numerous examples of boys and girls coming from Canada, Australia, the South African Republic and other distant countries to serve their military service in Serbia, in the Serbian Armed Forces, Colonel Kotarlić said at the awarding ceremony.

Soldiers who served their military service with arms were transferred into the reserve element of the Serbian Armed Forces, while those who completed the Reserve Officers’ Course were promoted to the rank of a reserve second lieutenant by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Serbia.

“I am sure that you will be proud to preserve and wear the badges and certificates of appreciation of the homeland you have received today just as you honourably served your people and the Serbian Armed Forces”, Colonel Kotarlić said.

From January 2017 until today, the awards were presented to soldiers who volunteered to serve their military service starting from March 2011 to September 2016 intake, while for the December 2016 intake, the recognitions will be presented in units and institutions during the military service.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the City of Belgrade and city municipalities, large technical systems, companies and other organisations and associations from the territory of jurisdiction, as well as the relatives and friends of conscripts who received awards.

After receiving the awards, the Administration of the Regional Centre of the Ministry of Defence in Belgrade, after renovating the premises in the Administration building of the city municipality of Čukarica, was officially opened by the Centre of the Ministry of Defence for the Čukarica local self-government.

The audience was addressed by Colonel Dragan Stojčić, Head of the Regional Centre of the Ministry of Defence, who explained the place and role of the Belgrade Regional Centre of the Ministry of Defence in the defence system.

- When the new Sector for Civil Defence and Defence Preparations was established, the Regional Centre and the centres of the Ministry of Defence for local self-government were assigned the responsibility and tasks from the area of civic training and coordination of civil protection tasks, by which these structures gain significance - Colonel Stojčić said.
