Minister Vulin: We did not allow the revision of history

We did not and will not allow the revision of history. We will not allow re-creating of the past to justify the events of the nineties in our country, nor agree that all victims are the same. We are proud of our history and we will not let others write it for us. That is why we launched the “Ratnik” edition, Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said at the public discussion dubbed “Attempt to revise history” at the booth of the Ministry of Defence at the Book Fair, attended by academician prof. Dr Darko Tanasković and prof. Dr. Mile Bjelajac.

- History says that facts are binding, and the conclusion is free. In our time and lives, the facts have ceased to be binding, not conclusions, and they are brutally violated, abused and distorted - Minister Vulin said, adding that the history of civil wars in the former SFRY territory is a history of brutal distortion of facts in real time.

Referring to the “Ratnik” edition, Minister Vulin pointed out that this edition was attacked by all media; they attacked that edition wherever they could, without polemics with the book, or with the authors, i.e. with the authors’ right to write at all.

- It is a real wonder that nobody was bothered by the book in which Haradinaj describes how he killed a policeman and then continued eating a burger peacefully. But if the Serbs speak their truth, this is for every conviction, and that must be prevented - Vulin said, and reminded of the intention to pass a resolution on the genocidal character of the Serbian people, Serbs to be the only people on the planet Earth to be designated as genocidal.

To make this possible, Minister Vulin added, you have to change history, and in this connection, Jasenovac was talked about as a labour camp, and backwards, that the World War I started with the shot of Gavrilo Princip. “Is it possible that a student caused a world war?”

The marking of the Great War, Minister Vulin emphasized, was an attempt to proclaim the end of the history to the world, that there was no burden and that we were starting from the beginning, that there were no aggressors, victims, crimes and sentences, that we were all unfortunate victims, and that was it.

- I believe that our fight for the past four years has been successful and that we did not allow history to change and that we did not allow the World War I to be the war Serbia asked for and caused - Minister Vulin said.

If you wish to break this people, the Minister of Defence emphasized, to remove it once and for all from the historical stage, you have to change its history, so that it starts to be ashamed of itself and to accept others to write history for it

Our army in Kosovo and Metohija, Minister Vulin emphasized, had 4M tactics - maneuver, mobility, masking and morale, morale above all.

- By revision of history, they kill the morale of a people, people that has no right, in difficult moments, to refer to the the tradition of its ancestors. This people will not oppose anyone and will not be able to defend either otself or its elementary interests.

- That is why we introduced the “Ratnik” edition so that others do not write our history for us. I cannot do much for the World Wars I and II, but the army can tell the truth about the wars in which it participated without its will, and without guilt, but to tell the truth that will ensure that future generations are with their army and with their country, that they are not ashamed and do not accept the false sense of guilt - Minister Vulin said, adding that the revision of history is not done for some irrational reasons, but for very rational, recognisable reasons, which have their foundation in politics and economy, so if you are powerful enough you can change it, but it is up to us to fight and not to allow it to be changed.
As academician Tanasković pointed out, while examining the problem of history revision, the Serbian people should strive to make the truth about reality and the past to be as close as possible to reality.

- Everyone has their own truth. It has always been somewhat subjective. Unfortunately, on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, we have six truths about the events from both closer and more distant past. And these truths are more or less incongruous and sometimes conflicting. When these truths are reproduced through the educational system and the media and bad policies, then it is clear that it is getting bigger and that there is no hope for any happiness, and the smallest common number can be reached in the perception of reality and the past - academician Tanasković assessed.

Dr Mile Bjelajac, referring to the past few days during which the public rated the “Ratnik” edition “with a minus”, pointed out that this is not the first time that an attempt to revise history is received in this way.

- I often warn that the contemporaries in their time are confined to what is relevant in order to be completely confidently oriented their time, especially those who make decisions, those who are historically able to take that responsibility - Dr. Bjelajac emphasized, referring to a lesson that historians can send in their time.
