Cooperation in the field of defence with the Republic of Austria

Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Milan Mojsilović met with Major General Johann Franck, Director of the Directorate for Security Policy, Federal Ministry for Defence and Sports of the Republic of Austria, in Vienna, to discuss the political and security situation in the region, as well as cooperation in the field of defence. The meeting was attended by Director of the Directorate for European Integration and Project Management, Colonel Katarina Štrbac.

During the visit, it was emphasized that excellent and intensive defence cooperation between Serbia and Austria is an incentive for the development of overall cooperation between the two countries, and proof of this is the forthcoming visit of Serbian Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin to Vienna.

Referring to the historical dimension of many years of successful cooperation between our two countries, Mojsilović recalled that Austria is the first country that opened the diplomatic mission in Serbia in 1836, and that cultural similarity and geographical proximity make that Serbia and Austria have excellent bilateral relations. He emphasized that economic cooperation and integration are the key we see for the lasting stability and overall development of the entire region.

During the talks, the interlocutors particularly emphasized Austria's support to Serbia in the process of European integration and expressed mutual willingness to create even better conditions for economic cooperation. Both sides agreed that it is necessary to continue intensive cooperation in response to security challenges, risks and threats in the region, especially in addressing the security issues of the migration crisis.
