Annual awards of Media Centre Odbrana



On the occasion of 24th January, the Day of the institution, Media Centre Odbrana has traditionally awarded the journalist prize “Ivan Markovic” and has chosen the best athlete and sports team of the Serbian Armed Forces in 2016.

The jury for the journalist prize “Ivan Markovic” in 2016 has unanimously decided to give the prize to Olivera Kovacevic, Entertainment Editor at Radio Television of Serbia for the show “Yes Maybe No” on the topic “Heroes of Kosare Battle in Kosovo and Metohija during 1998-1999” aired on 2nd June 2016 on RTS1.
 
Olivera Kovacevic, the author and editor of the show, has chosen the topic, which deserves full attention of the public, about the greatest land battle during the war in Kosovo and Metohija. The documentary “Heroes of Kosare Battle” was shown in the show, after which in the conversation with the participants of the battle, Olivera Kovacevic gave answers to the public on numerous questions about the progress and importance of the battle, especially what the sacrifice of hero soldiers represent today.
 
The jury for the journalist prize “Ivan Markovic” consisted of President Radenko Mutavdzic from the Ministry of Defence Public Relations Department and members Lieutenant Colonel Zoran Bobar, Public Relations Department, Natasa Nikolic, Media Centre Odbrana, Mileva Zotovic, Public Relations Department and Mira Svedic, Media Centre Odbrana.
 
The best athlete of the Serbian Armed Forces in 2016 is Lance Corporal Natasa Culafic whereas the title of the most successful sports team was given to Women Athlete Representation of the Serbian Armed Forces.
 
This time the jury had more than a difficult task to choose and declare the best among 13 high-quality athletes. However, the results achieved by Lance Corporal Culafic in 2016 have slightly distinguished her from other candidates and the jury has unanimously decided to choose her.

Women Athlete Representation including Lieutenant Nevena Jovanovic from the special purpose MP Battalion “Cobras”, Lance Corporal Natasa Culafic from the Guard, Lance Corporal Mariana Lukic Cegar and military employee Ksenija Bubnjevic from the Military Academy and military employee Ivana Petrovic from the 126th Air Surveillance, Early Warning and Guidance Brigade was declared the most successful sports team of the Serbian Armed Forces in 2016. Military athletes won the first place on the regional military contest in mountain running “Kopaonik mountain challenge” competing with colleagues from Romania, Poland, Bulgaria and Macedonia whereas they won a bronze medal on 48th World Military Marathon Championship in Torino.
 
The five-member jury consisted of President Lieutenant Colonel Aleksandar Miloradovic, the Delegation of the Republic of Serbia to the International Military Sports Council, Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Todorov, the Section for Military Sports of the Military Academy, Lieutenant Colonel Nenad Milosavljevic, Training and Doctrine Department of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Sanja Savic from Public Relations Department and Captain Aleksandar Petrovic, Media Centre Odbrana.


Winners will be presented with the awards at the ceremony on the occasion of the Day of Media Centre Odbrana on 24th January at 12.00 in the Central Military Club in Belgrade.
