State Secretary Nerić at the US-Adriatic Charter Defence Ministerial



State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Nenad Nerić participated in the US-Adriatic Charter Defence Ministerial (A5) which was held today at the castle near Varazdin. The meeting mainly analysed the results of the Croatian presidency of the US-Adriatic Charter in 2016.
 
Nerić in his speech pointed out that certain forms of cooperation under the auspices of the US-Adriatic Charter contributed to building global peace and security, citing as an example the success of A5 joint team for training the Afghan Armed Forces and its overall contribution to the ISAF mission. Therefore, he expressed belief that the future activities of the US-Adriatic Charter will contribute to peace and stability and stressed that Serbia is firmly committed to the promotion of cooperation in the region, and that it will continue to participate in the activities of the US-Adriatic Charter next year as well, as observer.
 
State Secretary Nerić had short bilateral meetings with Damir Krstičević, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Croatia, and with Michael Carpenter, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense.
 
The US-Adriatic Charter is a regional security grouping, the intergovernmental strategic partnership established at the initiative of the United States for strengthening the regional security and stability and faster inclusion of the states into European and Euro-Atlantic integration. In the above regional initiative, the Republic of Serbia has observer status.
