State Secretary Neric at the CEDC Meeting of Defence Policy Directors



State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Nenad Neric, took part in the Central European Defence Cooperation Plus meeting in Vienna, at the invitation of the Ministry of Defence and Sports of the Republic of Austria.
 
The meeting discussed the current issues relating to migrant crisis at the Western Balkans, as well as the evaluation of the activities that the participating states executed since the previously held meeting at this level and the defence ministers' meeting.
 
The meeting was also an opportunity to prepare adequate information and propose appropriate action for the next meeting of defence ministers, which is scheduled to take place on 7 November this year in Austria.
 
At the meeting, State Secretary Neric pointed to the efforts that the Republic of Serbia is investing in stabilising the situation on the 'Balkan Route' of migrants, which is reflected in the implementation of enhanced border control and prevention of criminal activities of smugglers. He also stressed the excellent cooperation of all relevant state bodies of the Republic of Serbia, and in particular the ministries of defence and the interior to mitigate the effects of the migrant crisis.
 
Neric stressed the importance of the Global Strategy for EU Foreign and Security Policy and called for the full implementation of the declared positions of the document relating to the increase in EU humanitarian aid to the countries of origin and transit of migrants and refugees, to work together with these countries on the elimination of the causes of migration, regulating their flow and return of such persons.
