Defence Minister opens the Vracar Women Entrepreneurs’ First Sales Exhibition



Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic opened the Vracar women entrepreneurs’ first sales exhibition in the premises of the Vracar Municipality. Instead of the traditional speech, Minister Djordjevic read to the attendees the song "Out of reach" from the book of poems by Milos Jankovic. In his media statement, Djordjevic said that he was invited to open that two-day event as a President of the Political Council for Gender Equality of the Serbian Government.
 
- Implementing the National Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 – Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Serbia – and dealing with gender equality, we dedicated one of our activities in the forthcoming period to emancipation of women; and the female entrepreneurship is one aspect of it. This is today one of the series of events which is dedicated to that issue, minister Djordjevic said.
 
City Councillor Radomir Petronijevic welcomed those present on behalf of the City of Belgrade and said that Belgrade, through the Council for Employment and Economic Development, has supported entrepreneurship in the last two years through various programmes. This year, a competition for women entrepreneurs was announced, and as he said, 33 stores were given for 24 months rent-free, and women entrepreneurs had the advantage. This programme will be continued next year with another 56 stores.
 
Petronijevic added that later this month a workshop "Knowledge to Target" begins in which the participants will learn how to obtain incentive funds for their projects through non-financial assistance programmes.
 
The first sales exhibition of Vracar women entrepreneurs which gathered 18 entrepreneurs who presented their handicrafts – from cakes, production of sweets, soap, various jewellery, embroidery, to traditional costumes.
 
The exhibition has selling and humanitarian character because 20 percent of the value of each sold product will be designed to help children in the Women's Safe House in Belgrade.
