Ceremony marking the day of the army



In the Central Military Club in Nis the day of the army was marked last night together with the day of the infantry. The ceremonious academy was attended by minister of defence Nebojsa Rodic with his associates, mayor of Nis dr Zoran Perisic, chief of the Nisava county dr Aleksandar Cvetkovic and episcope of Nis Jovan toghetehr with numerous guests.

Commander of the army Lt Col Aleksandar Zivkovic in his welcome address reminded the present of the glorious days of the Serbian army.

- Different worlds cultures and civilizations collided, mixed and intertwined here. Many armies crossed paths here. Many conquerors came here to remain forever. In continues struggle to survive, people gained war experience new war customs were creates as well as the code of conduct in battle.

- The Serbian army which grew tougher through the Balkan wars faced the first onslaught of the enemy in the great War. The geniality of leaders and the decisiveness of Serbian soldiers, NCOs and officers are the example how we should defend our motherland. The victory in the Kolubara demonstrated how the Serbian army faced with a complete breakdown could reorganize in a short period of time while overcoming a much more powerful enemy.

In the cultural program at the academy the art ensemble Stanislav Binicki, the Nis chamber choir and the actors of the National theatre in Nis, together with Bora Dugic, famous performer on the Serbian pipe, and vocal soloists Merima Njegomir and Aleksa Vasic.


On occasion of marking the day of the Army a ceremony was held today where the most distinguished members were awarded medals for exceptional deeds and achievements.
The day of the army is marked on 16 November in memory of the beginning of Kolubara battle in 1914 which ended in driving the enemy out of Serbia.
