Revealing memorial plaque to Lieutenant Borko Nikitovic

Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, together with the President of Pozega Municipality Milovan Micovic and President of the local Association of Veterans Dragan Micovic revealed today at Uzici near Pozega a plaque to Borko Nikitovic, who heroically lost his life protecting his soldiers in the war in Vukovar in 1991.

In the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, Nikitovic's relatives and friends of the local community, his classmate from the Military Academy, Colonel Zeljko Gavrilovic said that he was honoured to know the young officer of the Yugoslav Peoples Army who worthily repaid his debt to the homeland.

- He was the best among us. Holder of Vuk's diploma (Straight-A student) in the elementary school, the best student in Pozega, impeccable also in the Military High School to finish the Military Academy with an average score of ten, so that in the ceremony of promotion to the rank of lieutenant he was declared best cadet of that higher education institution. Therefore, as the best one, he was admitted to service in the Guards Brigade, Gavrilovic said and reminded that the winds of war “took“ that young officer to Vukovar, where he gave to his homeland the most precious thing he had – his life .

Mother of the fallen officer Zoran Nikitovic thanked “her armed forces” that they did not forget her son.

The plaque was placed on the building of the primary school “Petar Leković" which Borko Nikitovic attended, and on that occasion its current students played the anthem God of Justice and recited patriotic poems.
