President Vučić: We will build a memorial centre in Donja Gradina for Jasenovac martyrs

Asked to comment on messages by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković after the Croatian authorities banned the entry of Serbian Armed Forces officers, cadets and students heading for Jasenovac to attend the ceremony marking the Day of Jasenovac New Martyrs yesterday, president of the Republic of Serbia and supreme commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić said that the police station in Novska had been notified of the visit much earlier and pointed out that our students and cadets had visited Mathauzen in uniforms and that no one in Mathauzen was bothered by that.

- I see that they are bothered in Jasenovac. The children removed those uniforms and said, “We will leave those uniforms, they will not cross the border of Croatia. We will all go in civilian clothes, only to pay tribute to the Jasenovac victims”, and they said “You will not enter today”, President Vučić recalled yesterday's behaviour by Croatian authorities.

President Vučić says that not too far is the day when the question will be raised who was killed in Jasenovac and whether anyone was killed there at all. In order not to forget the Jasenovac victims, President Vučić points out that Serbia and Republika Srpska are planning to build a memorial centre in Donja Gradina.

- I am very grateful to Republika Srpska and Milorad Dodik for this, because it is a common idea. We expect soon a powerful US company that has done great and important things across Europe to come up with a proposal for what that memorial centre should look like. We will invest a lot of money in the territory of Republika Srpska, in Donja Gradina, and I believe that then all our children, all our excursions, all our people will wish to visit Jasenovac and pay homage, only on the other side of the Sava. To pay tribute to our victims, our great martyrs, and no one else will ever be able to forbid us from visiting it. No one will ever again be able to determine under which rules could we visit it – president Vučić emphasises.

There was no offence in the uniform of the Serbian soldier, President Vučić said, because it was not the Ustasha uniform that had committed crimes in Jasenovac. He also sends message to the Croatian authorities to “do their job and let them have their truths, while we will speak the one and only truth of what really happened”.
