Day of the Guard marked



Members of the Serbian Army Guard marked the barracks in Belgrade "Dedinje" Day of the unit. The ceremonial guards lined the parade was also attended by Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and Serbian Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Ljubisa Dikovi? and numerous guests.

Congratulating the day to current and former members of the unit, Sutanovac said the previous four years had been marked by reform.

- The reform of the defense is certainly one of the largest and most important reforms that were implemented in the last few decades. The very fact that we have only professional members of the Serbian Army says that we have completely changed the organizational structure and practices of training and all the system components that make up a modern - said the Minister adding that all this was done in order to get a more modern Serbian army.

The Defense Minister emphasized that the Army was not a closed and inert system where you cannot learn anything about it.

- Thanks to the Guard, your orchestra and other segments of our system we became more open to citizens. Let me remind you that two years ago, we had a magnificent celebration in Pozarevac, which was practically the beginning of a new Guard look - said Sutanovac noting that thanks to that today many young people want to join the Army of Serbia, especially the Guard.

Speaking of civil-military cooperation, the minister emphasized the help of civilian populations during natural disasters that hit Serbia this winter.

-There was no place where help was needed, or two banks had to be reconnected and there you were. I congratulate you on that, because I think that's the main thing about the army, to be with its people - said Minister of Defence highlighting the Guard today began a new tradition, as of today, they were wearing blue berets, which makes them unique.

No matter how tough times were, the minister said, the Guard had to complete tasks as they are the first members of our military foreign officials and representatives meet on arrival in our country.

-The first impression they have of Serbia is the impression of a decorated military, which adequately represents the state and army - reminded the minister said and added that it is precisely this fact that no one forgets.

At the end of his speech the Minister said that a three-year contract for them should not be their final goal, but the beginning and the chance that a large number of them should remain in the composition as professional non-commissioned officers.

- After his address the Minister, staged a festive parade of motorized units and echelon formations. After the official part, the guests visited the memorial room of the Guard.

- As of today, the members of the Serbian Army Guard units, instead of red, which was their hallmark, along with members of special brigades, will wear light blue berets, to match with the traditional color of guard uniforms, said Sutanovac, which will make their look, a recognizable way of presenting this elite unit.

Guard Commander Brigadier General Milomir Todorovic congratulated the holiday to all members stating that this is the first year that the unit is fully professionalized. Speaking about the work of the Guard in the year for us, general Todorovic commended the performances of the representative orchestra and exercirs of the Guard throughout the country. For the upcoming year, the Guard will work on increasing general in efficiency and constantly raising the standards.

-Tomorrow, at the same place is planned Open Day in the Guard, and we display the latest egzercira left for the occasion, which will be shown next egzercira more than ten working points and activities that Guard members perform as part of its special-purpose tasks, said Commander -Garde, adding that the old military tradition will be served tomorrow and style beans.

St. George's Day as the patron saint’s day of the Guard which continues a long tradition of 182 years, because on that day in 1830 by the orders of the then ruler of Serbia, Prince Milos in the first company Knjazeva Guardia consisting of 120 best and most respected guys in all of the Serbian Principality was established.

Serbian Army Guard is designed to perform military honors and protocols for local and foreign government officials and security of important military and government figures and objects.

Marking the Day of the Guard will continue tomorrow, in the same barracks, event "Open Day" where those interested will have a chance to see the equipment of the unit.
