River Flotilla Divers undergo winter training

Members of the River Flotilla’s diving unit are doing routine training and physical conditioning in winter and reduced visibility conditions in several locations on the Danube.
These are some of the physically and mentally most demanding training activities undertaken by military divers, since they are carried out at very low water temperatures, with the aim of maintaining the divers’ level of skill for performing specific missions on inland waterways in all weather conditions.

The training is first conducted in a hyperbaric chamber, followed by practice in diving procedures, searching the river bed, locating and salvaging submerged objects, tactical actions used when providing anti-sabotage protection to ships in the designated anchorage area.
Serbian Armed Forces’ diving unit is responsible for a large number of complex tasks which require exceptional level of training, physical fitness, mental strength and stability in river divers, as well as adherence to strict procedures when preparing for and carrying out assignments. Therefore, it is necessary that divers train throughout the year so that they are capable of addressing the most difficult situations at any time and are prepared for great physical and mental strain.
