Meeting between ministers Vučević and Vesić on reconstruction of Air Force and Air Defence Command building

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević met with Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesić to discuss the reconstruction of the Air Force and Air Defence Command building in Zemun, where the meeting was held.
The meeting was attended by Air Force and Air Defence Commander, Lieutenant General Duško Žarković, who briefed the meeting participants about the condition the building is in and its history, as well as the director of the Belgrade City Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Olivera Vučković, who presented key project segments and pointed out the importance of that building and its reconstruction.
The meeting reviewed the work done so far on the building reconstruction and agreed on the steps to be taken in the coming period to restore the Air Force and Air Defence Command building to its original glory.

The Air Force and Air Defence Command building was constructed in 1934 on the former Army Command  site, and it is one of the most important works of modern architecture. It was designed by architect Dragiša Brašovan, whereas the famous Serbian scientist, Milutin Milanković, made static calculations and supervised the construction of the building.
During the 1999 NATO aggression, the building was damaged, and in the period from 2000 to 2001, part of the building was partially reconstructed.

The Belgrade City Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments has prepared technical documentation for the restoration, reconstruction and adaptation of the Air Force and Air Defence Command building.
