New look for Military and Aeronautical Museums

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, visited the National Museum in Belgrade today, where he talked to the museum director Bojana Borić Brešković about plans for the Military and Aeronautical Museums.
  - The Ministry of Defence wants to invest in the Military Museum in Kalemegdan and the Aeronautical Museum to give them a new look. We want our Ministry, together with the National Museum experts and other local experts, to see what we can do for these two military institutions - Minister Stefanović said.

He said that, unfortunately, our country had not had enough funds for that purpose in the past.

- Today, thanks to Serbia’s better economic position, we can consider this possibility as well. We want as many citizens of our country as possible to see the huge artistic treasure kept in these two museums, and today I asked Ms Borić Brešković to help us by involving the National Museum. We rely on her and her associates’ extensive knowledge and expertise, but also on their experience, considering that they have gone through a lengthy process of renovating the National Museum, to help us do the same for the Military Museum - Minister Stefanović said.
According to him, it was agreed that a joint working group would start planning a large and serious project aimed at modernizing and improving the Military Museum.

- I expect our experts to finish the work together quickly so that we can present to the Government of Serbia the project that will revitalize and present the Military Museum to visitors in a completely new light in the future - Minister Stefanović concluded.

Borić Brešković was pleased with the fact that the National Museum was recognized as an institution that made a huge effort to improve our culture.

- It is well-known that the National Museum itself was unable to exhibit the treasure we can see today for many years, that we have gone through a complex process of constructing and renovating this exquisite building founded in 1844. I am very glad that we will have the opportunity to cooperate with exceptional museums, the Military Museum and the Aeronautical Museum, and that we can transfer our experience and, above all, improve our culture even more through joint work and teamwork - the director of the National Museum emphasized.
According to her, the Military Museum is an old museum symbolizing an independent Serbia, because it was founded by Milan Obrenović.

- This is another proof of our path, the path of achieving our goals in the best possible way, of making our culture accessible to everyone - Borić Brešković said.

During today's visit to the National Museum, Minister Stefanović also visited the exhibition of icons by Greek 15th-19th century masters entitled "Under the Golden and Blue Sky".
