Statement of the spokesman of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces about the aircraft crash



- During the execution of a regular flight task, this morning at about 9 o’clock, a MiG-21 aircraft of the Air Force and Air Defence of the Serbian Armed Forces crashed in the vicinity of the village of Brasina near Mali Zvornik. On that occasion, two pilots died, Major Dejan Krsnik and Captain 1st Class Zvonko Vasiljević from the 101st Fighter Squadron of the Air Force and Air Defence of the Serbian Armed Forces – said the spokesman of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, Major Milan Gujanica, in the village of Brasina today.

He pointed out that the Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin, the Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, the Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, Major General Duško Žarković and the Commander of the 204th Air Brigade, Colonel Brane Krnjajić went to the crash site today and talked to eyewitnesses.

- In accordance with the procedures, the aircraft was fully inspected immediately before take-off, and it was determined that it was in good working order and ready to perform the task. After the civilian and military authorities inspected the scene, the Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, and the Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, Major General Duško Žarković, formed a commission to investigate the accident, i.e. an expert commission that will look into the causes of the MiG-21 crash, said Major Gujanica and added that "members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces mourn the loss of their colleagues and extend their most sincere condolences to their families."
