Meeting of Minister Vulin and Ambassador Schieb

Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin met today in Belgrade with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Thomas Schieb, with whom he discussed the political and security situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the cooperation between Serbia and Germany in the field of defense.

As Minister Vulin pointed out at the beginning of the meeting, the formation of the so-called “Kosovo Army” is absolutely unacceptable for the Republic of Serbia and poses a threat to the entire region. He went on to say that KFOR is the only guarantor of security at the territory of Kosovo and Metohija in accordance with Resolution 1244.

- The introduction of a tax of 100 percent on Serbian imports and the products from Bosnia and Herzegovina is yet another act of arbitrariness on part of the representatives of Pristina, which is a violation of regional free trade agreements, Minister Vulin emphasized and expressed concern over the announcement from Pristina on the introduction of three new measures that “will certainly not contribute to calming the situation”.

In the course of the meeting, Minister Vulin emphasized the significance of the official politics led by the Republic of Serbia and its President and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, which “remains a factor of stability in the region”.

Ambassador Schieb emphasized the concern of Germany over the current tensions between Serbia and Kosovo. He has hope that tensions would soon be overcome and that the dialogue on normalization of relations would continue. The Ambassador also pointed out that Germany shares the position of the European Union that the introduced taxes should be abolished as soon as possible. He acknowledged the conduct of the Belgrade officials so far and urged the Serbian side to continue to maintain calm and thoughtfulness.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Vulin and Ambassador Schieb agreed that the cooperation between Serbia and Germany in the field of defense was good and well developed and that there was room for further improvement.
