Minister of Defence meets Austrian Ambassador



Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic and Austrian Ambassador Johannes Eigner agreed at today's meeting that intensive cooperation in defence is following and encouraging development of the overall relations between the two friendly countries. This is proven also by the forthcoming visit of the Austrian Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces to Serbia.

Minister Djordjevic said that Serbia highly appreciates Austria’s support for the faster progress of our country towards the European integration. The priorities of the Ministry of Defence in the framework of cooperation with the European Union are engagement in crisis management operations, deepening of the cooperation with the European Defence Agency, initiating engagement within the EU battle groups concept, and participation in high-level meetings and training of personnel in the framework of the Common Security and Defence Policy.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Defence is working on the qualitative development of relations in the field of defence with all countries, striving for, above all, peace and security in the region.

Talking about the migrant crisis, the defence minister informed the interlocutor on the procedures and activities which are jointly undertaken by the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior for border control and the fight against illegal migration. They highlighted the positive attitude of Serbia towards migrants and migrant crisis in general, as one of the key events that characterizes current security issues in the region and the world.

Defence Minister thanked for the invitation to participate in the second ministerial meeting in the extended format of the Central Defence Cooperation to be held in Vienna on 7 November.
