Bridge on Lido handed over to the Municipality of Zemun for use



The 1st Pontoneer Battalion of the Riverine Flotilla handed over today to the representatives of the Municipality of Zemun a pontoon bridge on the popular Lido beach in Zemun.

The 360 meter-long bridge with total capacity of 20 tons, is composed of 36 pontoon elements. It took about eight hours for the perfectly trained pontoneers of the Riverine Flotilla to bring the pontoon bridge joints from Sabac using tug boats and the same time to set it up.

According to the Commander of the 1st Pontoneer Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Sinisa Marinkovic, the bridge is ready for use, and members of the battalion will protect this crossing 24/7.

- All security measures are absolutely guaranteed and the bridge is completely safe for use. The bridge can be used for crossing over by pedestrians who will use the beach at the Lido, and light vehicles upon approval – Lieutenant Colonel Marinkovic said.

The pontoon bridge that connects the Great War Island with the left bank of the Danube, on whose delivery and setting up engineers from the composition of River Flotilla were working in the past few days, the Belgraders will be able to use throughout the bathing season, which starts on 1 July and ends on 31 August. In the time until the beginning of the swimming season, the bridge is primarily intended for crossing over by persons engaged in arranging of sports fields, the beach and other facilities on the Lido.
