Session of the Mixed Serbian-Algerian Committee




The fourth session of the Mixed Serbian-Algerian Commission for cooperation in the field of defence began today with the plenary session in "Topcider".

The session was attended by the Ambassador of NDR Algiers, Algerian Defence Attaché in Serbia, members of the Serbian and the Algerian delegation and representatives of Yugoimport-SDPR.

The attendees were addressed by the Co-Chairman of the Serbian part of the Mixed Committee, Major General Prof. Mladen Vuruna and the Co-Chairman of the Algerian part of the Mixed Committee Major General Abdelhamid Gris.

General Vuruna said that the cooperation between Serbia and Algeria abounds with exceptional understanding, and recalled the history of good relations between the two countries thanking for the great support that Algeria have provided to Serbia in all major segments.

For the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, this visit is of great importance, because the defence cooperation between our two countries have had an upward trend and represents the most advanced form of bilateral cooperation. The aim of our fourth session is further improvement and deepening of the strategic partnership, identifying new areas of cooperation of mutual interest and the signing of the 2016 Serbian-Algerian Defence Cooperation Programme, the Co-Chairman of the Serbian part of the Mixed Committee said.

According to General Gris, the cooperation between Serbia and Algeria in the last three years was invested a lot of efforts and hard work of both sides in the Mixed Committee for the cooperation in the field of defence. The most important areas of cooperation, according to the General, are military, educational, industrial and cooperation in the field of research and development.

- I am confident that with good will, efforts and work, the relations will grow stronger to become a good model of cooperation which will be very fruitful and mutually beneficial, General Gris said.

The two-day session includes an analysis of the realized activities in 2015, consideration of the 2016 Serbian-Algerian Defence Cooperation Programme, and a summary of cooperation in the field of military industry, military education, military medicine and military-to-military cooperation.

After the plenary session, the work of four sub-committees is scheduled.
