21.12.2015.
Opening of the exhibition "Citizens of Uzice in the top leadership of Serbia and Yugoslavia, 1815 - 2015"
The opening of the exhibition was attended by the Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Ljubisa Dikovic, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic, poet Ljubivoje Rsumovic and numerous guests.
On behalf of the host, the audience was addressed by the Director of the Odbrana Media Centre Colonel Stevica S. Karapandzin who recalled that the eminent citizens of Uzice have created history not only of Uzice and Zlatibor region but also of the whole country.
- Each of us should strive for the preservation of the historical consciousness and we as a nation should not allow our history to be forgotten, Colonel Karapandzin said, stressing that it is precisely why the Central Military Club, as an institution that cherishes tradition, culture and spirituality, is always ready to participate in the organisation of the events that present to the wider general public less known details from the rich Serbian history.
President of the Association of the Citizens of Uzice in Belgrade Dr Milos Tucovic pointed out that the exhibition speaks about the people of Uzice who performed the most responsible duties in the country over 200 years and who are little or insufficiently known.
- The exhibition equally presented the historical figures and the ones who were not that recognised in the history or are still young for it, Tucovic said noting that among them there are princes, heads of state, ministers and generals.
The exhibition includes a chronological overview of the participation of 61 personalities from Uzice and former Uzice District - today Zlatibor District, who occupied the most responsible positions in the state. The personalities were presented with photos, biographies and selected documents which illustrate their political activity.
The material used for the exhibition was collected during the period of two years in the Archives of Serbia, Archives of Yugoslavia, the Military Archives, the Museum in Prijepolje, the National Museum in Uzice, the National Library in Uzice, the Historical Archives in Uzice, private collections as well as by personal contribution of individual ministers and political officials.
All those who are interested can see the exhibition until 29 December 2015 from 11 am to 19 pm at the Small Gallery of the Central Military Club.
