Minister Gasic with Armenian state officials
At the end of the three-day visit to the Republic of Armenia, Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic met with highest state officials of Armenia.
Minister Gasic spoke about bilateral cooperation between the two countries met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian. During the meeting, they discussed certain matters in current relations at regional and global levels. It was pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1994, our countries have traditionally had good and friendly relations and that Serbia provided shelter for Armenians who lost their homes in the early 20th century, especially in 1922, so today about a thousand of their descendants live in Belgrade, Vrnjacka Banja and Novi Sad.
Minister Gasic was also received by Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hermine Naghdalyan. During the talks, they expressed a common expectation that there will be an establishment of inter-parliamentary cooperation, which will be contributed by friendship groups that have formed in the parliaments of the two countries. They also expressed satisfaction that the contractual situation between the two countries will be enhanced in the future, with the agreeing and signing of several international legal acts, including the Agreement on cooperation in the field of defence.
The successful and fruitful visit to Armenia was rounded off by the reception of Minister Gasic by President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. President Sargsyan thanked for the greetings of President Tomislav Nikolic and Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, conveyed by Minister Gasic. The officials noted that the Order of the Republic of Serbia on the strip and the Armenian Order of Honour for contribution to the strengthening and development of relations between the two countries, which were presented to the two presidents last year, are the best evidence of excellent overall and political relations. They reminded that the strong ties between the two nations were also reinforced in 1988 when Serbian pilots died in an attempt to help after the earthquake in Armenia, after which the Armenian side took care of the families of the killed pilots.
