Cooperation with Belarus

Head of the Department for International Military Cooperation Navy Captain Milan Konjikovac met with Ambassador of Belarus to Serbia H.E. Vladimir Chushev and newly appointed defence attaché Colonel Alexander Venguro, who is accredited on the non-resident basis for Serbia, residing in Vienna.

The presenting of the first defence attaché of Belarus in Serbia represents a continuation of the intensification of defence cooperation with this country, which has improved after the signing of the Agreement on cooperation in the field of defence, during the visit of Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic to Minsk in November last year.

During the talks, they exchanged opinions on the most important current issues of bilateral relations between the two countries and the two defence ministries. Gratitude was expressed for the principled support of Belarus to our legitimate efforts to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity in Kosovo and Metohija.

Analysing the current security challenges and threats, the interlocutors agreed that all problems must be solved by consensus and agreement, and in accordance with the provisions of the international legal order, in a peaceful and principled manner. Compliant to the military neutrality and the four pillars of our foreign policy, Serbia builds partnerships in the East and the West, in accordance with national interests and with respect for the values of the UN.

The commitment of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to the development of regional cooperation and active contribution to global peace and security through our participation in UN peacekeeping operations and the EU was underlined. They exchanged opinions on the effects of the crisis caused by large migrations from the Middle East and North Africa, and on the ways of its resolution. They expressed satisfaction with the praise of the international community for the present chairmanship of Serbia over OSCE, as well as its balanced approach to resolving the conflict situations, and they exchanged practices from the engagement of the two countries within the framework of the Partnership for Peace Programme.

It was noted that the defence cooperation between the two friendly countries has a positive trend, as evidenced by the high percentage of implementation of the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2015, as well as the forthcoming visit of Defence Minister of Belarus Lieutenant General Andrei Ravkov to Serbia.
