Minister Gasic meets Ambassador of Greece

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic and Ambassador of Greece Constantine Economides discussed the possibilities for improving cooperation in areas of common interest.

It was concluded that the traditionally good relations between Serbia and Greece are an excellent basis for even better cooperation in the field of defence, and in the coming period military visits at the highest level are planned. It is precisely because of such good relations between the two countries that Gasic expressed hope that Greece would not support the accession of so-called Kosovo into UNESCO, so that this institution for the protection of cultural heritage would not include those who have been destroying it for years continuously.

During the discussion on the inclusion of the Serbian Armed Forces in activities related to the Battlegroups of the European Union, Gasic stressed the commitment to fully assume the obligations of a full member and a reliable partner in the construction of security and defence of the EU. In this regard, he expressed the readiness of the Serbian Armed Forces to participate in the Battlegroup HELBROC, headed by Greece.

Gasic and Economides agreed that the new security challenges, risks and threats of terrorism, economic and energy dependence, as well as the uncontrolled migration of people from crisis areas require advancing cooperation to the highest possible level.

Therefore, Minister Gasic, discussing the migrant crisis in the region, expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that so far the role and importance of Serbia in the migrant crisis has not been sufficiently recognized. Since the winter and worsening conditions for the care of refugees are coming, Gasic expressed his belief that, in the next period, financial support for Serbia's efforts in taking care of refugees will not lack.
